Thanksgiving Thoughts

I'm having a hard time believing Thanksgiving is almost here again. Nevertheless, it is. Yes, we're in the seasons of "giving thanks." Sometimes it's challenging to be thankful though.

Whether you're in the midst of addiction or recovery, suffering from PTSD or chronic pain, or simply just aren't in the festive spirit, it's fine to feel this way. However, God doesn't want us to forget to be thankful wherever we find ourselves in life. He wants us to realize that wherever we are in life, there's always something to be thankful for.

14 Things to be Thankful for as Christians

Let's take a moment to consider who we are in Christ. In doing so you'll see that as Christians we have 15 things to be thankful for that the world doesn't have.

God gave us the free gift of salvation.

For here is the way God loved the world—he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. - John 3:16

We're never alone. God is always with us.

“I will never leave you, never! And I will not loosen my grip[a] on your life!” - Hebrews 13:5b

God gives us hope.

Now may God, the fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope! - Romans 15:13

God loves us unconditionally.

Who could ever divorce us from the endless love of God’s Anointed One? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven’s love. What about persecutions, deprivations, dangers, and death threats? No, for they are all impotent to hinder omnipotent love, - Romans 8:35

When we're persecuted we're also blessed.

“How blessed you are when people insult and persecute you and speak all kinds of cruel lies about you because of your love for me! So leap for joy—since your heavenly reward is great. For you are being rejected the same way the prophets were before you. - Matthew 5:11-12

God is good... ALL the time.

For Yahweh is always good and ready to receive you. He’s so loving that it will amaze you — so kind that it will astound you! And he is famous for his faithfulness toward all. Everyone knows our God can be trusted, for he keeps his promises to every generation! - Psalm 100:5

We're never alone. God is always with us.

Do not yield to fear, for I am always near. Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with my strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.’ - Isaiah 41:10

God provides us with everything we need.

I am convinced that my God will fully satisfy every need you have, for I have seen the abundant riches of glory revealed to me through Jesus Christ! - Philippians 4:19

We are citizens of Heaven.

But we are a colony of heaven on earth as we cling tightly to our life-giver, the Lord Jesus Christ, - Philippians 3:20

God is gracious and merciful.

So now we draw near freely and boldly to where grace is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness.  - Hebrews 4:16

We have God's Word with us at all times.

For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.
- Hebrews 4:12

God chooses to allow us to talk to Him in prayer.

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, - Philippians 4:6

We've been given a fresh start, a clean slate when we were born again.

But you, Timothy, must not see your life and ministry this way. Your life and ministry must not be disgraced, for you are to be a pure container of Christ and dedicated to the honorable purposes of your Master, prepared[a] for every good work that he gives you to do. - 2 Timothy 2:21

God protects us.

But I promise you, no weapon meant to hurt you will succeed, and you will refute every accusing word spoken against you. This promise is the inheritance of Yahweh’s servants, and their vindication is from me,” says Yahweh. - Isaiah 54:17

If you're not feeling thankful this season, take some time to do some self-care. Don't be afraid to say "no." Remember you and your relationship with God are the most valuable things you have. With Him there's always something to be thankful for.

Until next time, Stay strong
